Convention d'accueil
The "convention d'accueil" is a French government form authorizing entry of non-EU citizens into French Polynesia for the purposes of research and university-level teaching.
Research
All non-EU citizens carrying out research (including PHD students but not undergraduates or masters students) must complete the "convention d'accueil" as an immigration requirement. Users should complete the convention d'accueil at least 60 days (2 MONTHS) before travel to FP. The completed form can be uploaded on the Gump Station Forms page. You will be contacted within a few days with confirmation of receipt and any further instructions. Forms that are incorrectly filled out or larger than 800 KB will be returned.
For visits to explore potential research projects and participate in meetings: the "convention d'accueil" is generally not required for citizens of countries participating in French Polynesia's visa waiver scheme (e.g., USA).
Teaching
All non-EU citizens teaching a university-level class (professors and teaching assistants) must complete the form "convention d'accueil" at least 60 days (2 MONTHS) before travel to FP.
Undergraduate students - if citizens of countries participating in French Polynesia's visa waiver scheme (e.g., USA) - generally do not need the "convention d'accueil". Class leaders should provide the "Participant's form" (below) listing their students.
Conferences
Conference organizers and participants do not need to complete the form "convention d'accueil" if they are citizens of countries participating in French Polynesia's visa waiver scheme (e.g., USA).
Work Permit - Carte de Travail
For non-French citizens carrying out research (including post-docs and technicians, but NOT graduate students) or teaching a university class, a Work Permit (Carte de Travail) is required covering the time spent in French Polynesia. An application must be submitted with a copy of your passport 2 MONTHS prior to arrival. Researchers coming for meetings, workshops, and conferences do not need the Work Permit (Carte de Travail).
