Rates and Fees

The Gump Station charges a 'flat fee' per person,
which includes housing as well as usage of labs, internet, scuba, cars, and boats.

Rates and Fees

The Gump Station charges a 'flat fee' per person (researcher, professor, or student), which includes housing (a range of options) and access to all shared facilities (labs, internet, scuba, cars, and boats). Usage of shared facilities is subject to availability and according to Station usage policies.

Catering: Rates are in self-catering accommodations (i.e., do not include meals), but catering is an option for groups at an additional charge.

Day Use: Priority is given to residential users but day use (i.e., those wishing access to Station facilities but who will live off-site) is permitted for a flat fee and subject to availability (please confirm in advance with Gump management).

NOTE:

The rates are calculated to recover the full cost of operating the Gump Station. Financial contributions from the University of California and institutions in the Gump Consortium (see Governance section on home page) enable their users to pay a lower rate. The Gump Station strives to maintain stable rates, however, the University of California reserves the right to change the rates at any time - posting any such changes with as much notice as possible. Users should anticipate annual increases to reflect cost of living adjustment (depending on inflation).

  • Usage will be summarized each month and an invoice issued by email. (For UC users, billing is via internal recharge and users' are encouraged to provide their chartstrings as soon as possible when making a reservation.)
  • Goods and services (purchased on request of users) that are not covered by the flat fee are billed separately as 'pass through expenses'. This will incur a 15% markup service charge for non-UC users. Users should confirm rate when requesting the Station purchase items on their behalf.
  • All payments are made to the University of California in Berkeley - payment options and instructions will be sent with your invoice.
  • The Gump Station does not accept any payments in Moorea

Rates from July 1, 2024

(note: rates typically increase by 2-5% annually from July 1)

Contact the Station for the optional catering rates, which may be subject to change. For budgeting purposes, full-board rates from July 1, 2023 are estimated at $36/day for UC and $39/day for all others, with a $4/day supplement for conferences (coffee breaks).
