Getting to Tahiti

Tahiti is readily accessible from the east and west coast USA, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and Japan. Direct, non-stop flight times are about 8 hours from Los Angeles (daily flights) and Sydney, 5 hours from Auckland and Honolulu, 12 hours from New York.

Papeete (PPT) Tahiti is served by serveral international airlines including Air Tahiti Nui (non-stop to LAX, Japan, Auckland, and starting July 2005, New York and Sydney), Air New Zealand (Auckland, LAX, London), Air France (LAX, Paris), Hawaiian Airlines (Honolulu), Air Calin (Noumea), and Lan Chile (Easter Island, Santiago).

Depending on when you arrive in Tahiti, you may be able to take a flight (Air Tahiti or Air Moorea) or a ferry to Moorea that same day/night (see getting to Moorea) or you might need to spend the night in Tahiti (see hotels).

LAX-PPT-LAX Special for Gump Station Visitors

The Gump Station has secured fixed year-round rates on an international carrier between Los Angeles (LAX) and Papeete (PPT). These are available for all Gump Station visitors through a travel agent, Travel Portfolio, in Los Angeles. Ask also about connections from PPT to Moorea.

At time of writing, the rates are $705 (plus tax) for stays under a month and $805 (plus tax) for stays over a month (up to one year).

All tickets must payed for and ticketed 30 days PRIOR to departure and the only form of payment acceptable is a personal check, a cashiers check, a check from the University, a money order. Sorry but credits cards cannot be accepted at this time.
