Those wishing to operate a Station boat need to be approved first, which entails:
- All boat operators must have a valid boating license from their country of origin.
- US residents may obtain a US Coast Guard approved certificate by completing an online exam at boatus.org.
- Boat operators must also take the local French Polynesia boating exam (in English). Details about the test are available on this site including a study guide, example questions, and example forms.
- All boat operators must also familiarize themselves with the Gump Boating Safety Manual and pass a practical exam onsite.
