UCB Geomorphology and Island Biology

[Integrative Biology 158 & Environmental Science Policy and Management 107 - Year 2000 Class]

Since 1991 this undergraduate class from the University of California, Berkeley has been coming to Moorea between mid-September and mid-November. They stay for ten weeks doing research in many areas. The students choose a project once they arrive at the island and write up a complete research draft. They then do the research in the field and then return nitely to analyze their data. Upon returning to Berkeley, the students write up papers on their research and present their research at a department symposium. Past years classes have done research into topics such as:

  • Epiphyte growth on Coconut Trees
  • Coral reef formation in waters with pollution
  • Fish Behavior
  • Gobey Biomechanics
  • Cyanobacterial Mud Flats and their contents
  • The interaction between Ants and Hibiscus
  • Many Others
