Gump Station Laboratories
There are two marine laboratories (located alongside the dock) and construction of a large third laboratory is almost complete (anticipated for January 2006) on the mountain side of the road. All three laboratories were funded by gifts from Gordon and Betty Moore and the Moore Family Foundation.
The"wet lab" has water tables with running seawater and freshwater, as well as three large, outdoor seawater tanks that can be used to hold organisms in full sunlight.
The "dry lab" is divided into two rooms, one of which is airconditioned. The dry lab contains microscopes, drying oven, centrifuge, computers, and fume hood.
The main laboratory is expected to be fully operational early in 2006. It will contain a large teaching lab (~25 students), 3 smaller research labs, a molecular lab, library, meeting room, morphology lab, IT center, chemical and storage rooms, and office space.
